Göcek continues to be one of Turkey's most protected coastal regions. As of the 2026 season, new regulations from the Ministry of Environment, Urbanisation and Climate Change have come into force.
Which Coves Are Affected?
In Göcek's protected coves — including Bedri Rahmi, Göbün, the area around Tersane Island and the Yassıca Islands — free anchoring is now restricted. In these areas, boats may only moor to designated buoys.
Buoy reservations are made through a digital system. Captains are required to register with the system before the season begins.
Why This Decision?
The protection of seabed meadows (Posidonia oceanica) is the primary justification. Years of intensive anchoring have caused serious damage to these fragile ecosystems.
The new system both protects the environment and keeps cove capacity manageable — preventing overcrowding during peak season.
What Should Captains Do?
Before the season, obtain the current buoy chart from Göcek Marina and Fethiye Harbour Master's office. Prepare the required documents for the digital reservation system.
The rule change is not a restriction — it is an investment in sustainability.
